Crime and punishment: Court indicts police official for killing spouse
Suspect claims he shot his wife accidentally but prosecution asserts it was intentional
KARACHI:
A sessions court indicted on Tuesday a police official in a case pertaining to the murder of his wife.
SP Mian Jamshed Inamullah was indicted for killing his wife, identified as Hina, at their house in Defence Housing Authority in July, last year. The suspect claimed that the firing was accidental. However, the prosecution asserted that it was intentional.
District South’s additional sessions judge, Suhail Muhammad Laghari, read out the charges to the suspect as a mandatory process before the commencement of the trial. The accused police official denied the charges and opted to contest the case.
Initially, the case was registered under section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), but at the time of submitting the charge sheet, the police submitted the case under Section 319 (unintentional murder).
Court verdict: Human trafficker given 16-year term
The investigating officer of the case quoted the servant of the police officer as witness and stated that SP Inamullah was cleaning his weapon at his residence when it accidentally went off.
The charges under Section 319 of the PPC were omitted from the case on the recommendations of the public prosecutor associated with the case.
