KARACHI: Express News cameraman Imran Ali, who suffered 40 per cent burns while covering a protest, has now been pronounced out of danger and shifted from the intensive care unit to a private ward.

Ali, 27, was injured while at work at Teen Hatti where the gas cylinder of a bus set on fire exploded on January 10.

According to the director for Burns and Plastic Surgery at Patel Hospital, Dr Mazhar Nizam, Ali will require two operations. “His right forearm and arm are not healing and there is an unhealed portion on his left arm as well. We need to carry out skin grafts to help the arms heal and hope to do them some time next week,” he said. “His face has almost healed and his back has partially healed as well.”

According to his elder brother Aziz Ahmed, Ali was moved from the ICU after a few patients succumbed to their injuries. Ahmed says his brother suffers from fever on a regular basis since the fire and has developed an infection for which he has been on antibiotics for the last few days.
