ISLAMABAD:

Barrister Amjad Malik has been appointed Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Board of Governors (BoG) chairman. The board approved the appointment at its 131ST meeting on Tuesday.

He is the first overseas Pakistani to be elected as chairman of the OPF board, said a press release.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Pir Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashidi served as chairman. After introduction of Corporate Governance Rules, a private member of the board could be appointed as chairman. Since the OPF was established to look after interests of overseas Pakistanis, it was an utmost desire of the board to appoint an overseas Pakistani as its chairman. The newly appointed chairman said that Pakistani expatriates were playing vital role in improving economy of the country and they deserve special attention. He said that provision of more facilities and resolution of problems being faced by overseas Pakistanis was the top most priority of the government. He vowed to make the board more vibrant, effective and service oriented.

The board appreciated the services rendered by previous board members including the contribution of the Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.
