Memorial: Slain police officer’s services recalled

Rich tributes paid to late IGP Malik Saad Khan for his services in combating terrorism and extremism.

PESHAWAR: Rich tributes were paid to the late Inspector-General of Police Malik Saad Khan for his services in combating terrorism and extremism.

The memorial was held under the aegis of Malik Saad Trust (MST) at the Peshawar Press Club here on Tuesday. Saad was one of the 13 people who died in a suicide bombing at a mosque during Muharram on January 27th 2007. He was performing a personal review of security.

Saad’s comrades, policticians and civil society activists attended the function. MST Chairman Malik Naveed Saad, son of the slain officer, said Saad had sacrificed his life for the sake of people and his soil.

“He performed his professional duties with full commitment,” he said, adding his father had brought a number of reforms in the police and renewed their enthusiasm. Provincial Minister for Sports,Culture and Tourism Syed Aqil Shah said Saad revamped hockey and played a significant role in the promotion of sports in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He said the government would establish a gymnasium named after him.

MST general secretary Amjad Aziz Malik highlighted the objectives of the trust. He said the trust had announced a scholarship for needy and deserving student.
