Approved: Food Authority soon to monitor quality

KARACHI: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday gave an approval for setting up Food Authority to provide hygienic food items to the people.

He was presiding over a meeting regarding setting up of the Punjab Food Authority. MPA Dr Saeed Elahi, chief secretary, law secretary, and officers concerned also attended the meeting. Food Secretary Irfan Elahi gave a briefing regarding the authority.

The chief minister said that the decision to set up a Punjab Food Authority has been taken in order to provide people with unadulterated and quality food. He said that the authority will be completely autonomous on the pattern of the Punjab Health Commission. He directed the concerned department to set up food testing laboratories. The food secretary said that different departments were working for the provision of pure and quality essential items to the people. He said that the establishment of the authority will result in an affective system of monitoring. The participants of the meeting also gave their proposals regarding the Punjab Food Authority.
