National Anthem: Treason case sought against singer

The petitioner said this had damaged Pakistan’s image

LAHORE: An additional district and sessions judge, once again, sought comments from the Gulberg SHO on Monday while hearing a petition filed by a man seeking a treason case against singer Shafqat Ali. He has accused Ali of messing up the lyrics of the national anthem at the commencement of a cricket match between Pakistan and India. Petitioner Muhammad Iqbal Akhtar, president of the Trust Welfare Foundation, said he was watching the cricket match on TV on March 19, with his friends when they heard Ali jumble up lyrics of the national anthem. He said this had damaged Pakistan’s image. Akhtar requested the court to direct the Gulberg SHO to register an FIR against the singer.
