Call to action: End to attacks on journalist demanded

The union pressed the government to take serious measures and apprehend the culprits

PESHAWAR: Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) expressed grave concern over repeated attacks and threats to senior journalist and Express News Bureau Chief Jamshed Baghwan. The KhUJ summoned an emergency meeting for Monday (today) to discuss the threats to Baghwan, who is also the former president of the union. Union president Saiful Islam Saifi and General Secretary Faizan Hussain voiced their concern over the threats to Baghwan and the attacks on his house. It was also concerned over the silence of government bodies which were reluctant to take any steps in the matter. The union pressed the government to take serious measures and apprehend the culprits. According to a press release issued by the union, Baghwan’s house in Peshawar has been attacked with explosives on two occasions. According to the statement, FIRs of militants activities had been registered, but neither the police nor the government had made any enquiry.
