At least six members of a family lost their lives on Saturday when a speeding coaster hit a van near Chowk Maitla Mod area in the suburbs of South Punjab’s Bahawalpur district.
According to reports, the fateful van was overtaking a tractor-trolley when a coaster coming from the opposite direction lost control and collided with both the van and the trolley, which was loaded with wheat.
The van’s passengers – who were returning to their home in Khanpur after attending a wedding – sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. They were later identified as Samreen Basheer ,23, Namra, 12, Umaira Basheer, Waheed Anwar (driver), Hassan Arif, 8, and Shakeela Bibi.
Passengers of the coach, which flipped on the roadside, also sustained injuries and around 27 of them were shifted to different medical facilities, including Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Liaquatpur, Feroza and Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan.
