‘The Rock’ to produce ‘Jumanji’ remake

Actor confirms news on his Instagram account

LOS ANGELES: Actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has confirmed he and his company Seven Bucks Productions will produce the upcoming Jumanji movie.

“It’s official: love this script! Big movie news that me and my canine gal Shang [Johnson’s dog] are excited to share. To produce, create and deliver original properties to fans such as HBO’s Ballers to this summer’s Central Intelligence is one of the best parts of my job,” Johnson wrote. “But to take great properties that are beloved worldwide like Baywatch and Rampage and have the opportunity to re-imagine their stories in dope new ways for a whole new generation is truly an honour,” he added.

He later confirmed that his production banner will produce the film. “It’s official. We’ll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love ... it is one of my all time favourites. There are games you play for fun ... then there are games that change your life. Jumanji,” he wrote.

While he did reveal that production is currently under way, he did not confirm whether he is starring in the film or not.  “I am working on edging up an already very good script with my team. Up next is meeting with our producer Matt Tolmach and director Jake Kasdan. Promise to deliver something cool and special ... and not screw the whole damn thing up. As always I’ll keep you posted. Casting [for] this should be fun,” Johnson wrote.

The film is slated for a July 28, 2017 release. Based on Chris Van Allsburg’s original 1981 adventure book of the same name, the film revolves around a 12-year-old boy who gets trapped in a board game in 1969 and is released 26 years later.
