FAISALABAD:

Aggressive bowling by Rahat Ali, coupled with half centuries from Fakhar Zaman, Ahmed Shahzad and Zohaib Khan guided Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to their first win in the Pakistan Cup One-Day tournament as they beat Punjab by two runs at Iqbal Stadium here on Friday.

Batting first, K-P posted a total of 262 runs in their allotted 50 overs thanks to an opening partnership of 88 runs between Zaman (64 off 71 balls) and Shahzad (57 off 52 balls). Khan chipped in with an unbeaten 51 off 53 balls. Punjab’s Aamer Yamin and Zulfiqar Babar took two wickets each.

In reply, Punjab got off to a good start with in-form batsman Salman Butt smashing 77 runs. But four wickets from Ali and one by Ziaul Haq ensured a nail-biting finish to the match where Punjab fell just two runs short of victory.
