Corporal punishment: Two teachers transferred

The parents complained to Haripur Deputy Commissioner after which an enquiry was launched

HARIPUR: Two teachers of different high schools were transferred to remote areas on Friday for violating rules and subjecting students to corporal punishment. Officials at the office of Haripur Elementary & Secondary Education district officer, requesting anonymity, said Khalid Iqbal, a teacher at Haripur Government High School (GHS) for boys beat a student of grade seven on Monday while Khursheed Anwar, another teacher at Haripur GHS No 3 for boys hit a student on Tuesday. The parents complained to Haripur Deputy Commissioner after which an enquiry was launched. Iqbal was transferred to GHS in Kundi while Anwar was transferred to GHS in Khanpur. According to sources, despite pressure from a local political figure, the DO refused to succumb to pressure and said the order was final and will not be cancelled.
