Pakistan’s only professional boxer Waseem to get first title shot in July

Waseem, nicknamed Falcon, has built an impressive record of three knockout victories under his belt in as many fights

Mohammad Waseem, Pakistan’s only professional boxer in the international circuit, will take on Philippines’ Jether Oliva for the World Boxing Council Asian Continental Championship flyweight title on July 27 in Singapore.

Waseem, who has been nicknamed Falcon, has built an impressive record in his flourishing pro career with three knockout victories under his belt in as many fights.

Having defeated Indonesia’s John Bajawa via a technical knockout last month, the Quetta-born is now preparing for the most important fight of his career.

According to his South Korean manager and promoter Andy Kim, the upcoming fight against Oliva will be a major test for Waseem.

“It’s going to be a tough fight and Waseem needs to prove his mettle. Fortunately, Waseem has enough time to prepare, but Oliva has been competing at the professional circuit since he was 17 years old,” Kim told The Express Tribune. “He has also challenged different boxers for title bouts in the past, so this is an important fight for us. However, if Waseem wins, he will be one step closer to the world flyweight title.”
