MUMBAI: Actor Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to Lilavati Hospital on Saturday morning due to high fever and a severe chest infection, will reportedly be discharged on Tuesday. After being advised an intravenous administration of antibiotics for a speedy recovery, the actor’s condition is much more stable now than before.

According to Kumar’s wife Saira Banu, he is recuperating well. She took to Twitter to dismiss rumours that indicated Kumar was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “According to doctors, oral drugs would not have acted as fast as injections. Hence, it became necessary to shift him to a hospital. He is recovering well and is stable by the grace of God and the care of the doctors. He is not in the ICU, as suggested by the rumours,” she said.

The actor had been rushed to the hospital after he complained of fever and breathing problems. “He is stable now and being kept under observation. The actor is not in the ICU; he is doing fine. He was diagnosed with pneumonia but he is revering well,” Udaya Tara Nayar — a family friend of Kumar’s — shared.

Kumar is credited with films such as Aan, Daag, Madhumati, Paigham, Leader and Ram Aur Shyam.

After a career spanning a little over six decades, he stepped away from the limelight in 1998. His last movie was Qila, which came out in the same year.
