KARACHI:

A four-day polio campaign is set to begin in all districts of Karachi from Monday, April 18, under the supervision of Karachi commissioner Asif Hyder Shah.

The drive will continue till Thursday, April 21. According to a press release issued from commissioner's office, a meeting was held on Wednesday at the polio emergency operation centre.

During this campaign, 2.2 million children will be administered polio drops and effective security measures have already been taken, said the press statement. A micro plan to ensure proper management and coordination at a lower level has also been updated.

Meanwhile, Shah ordered all the relevant departments to work together to make sure that the micro plan is effectively implemented. He said that the future of the children of the nation is linked to the polio campaign. He appealed to parents to have polio drops administered to their children for the sake of their children's future. For those children who have already been administered the polio vaccine, he asked them to get it re-administered, in order to enhance the vaccine's power.

A helpline for the polio campaign, 1299, has been established at commissioner office and will be functional round the clock. The commissioner urged the public to inform his office if polio teams do not reach any area.
