Zulqarnain Haider says ready to sue PCB

Former wicketkeeper says he is ready to take legal action against the board for casting doubts on his mentality.

Former Pakistani wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider plans to take legal action against the country's cricket officials for calling him mentally "weak".

Haider wrote on his page on the social networking website Facebook on Monday that he is ready to sue the PCB about its report on his alleged mental illness.

According to television reports, Haider also plans to take legal action against PCB Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed, team coach Intikhab Alam and former security manager Khawaja Najam Javed.

A fact-finding committee that was formed by the PCB to look into Haider’s sudden flight to England, had called him mentally “weak”.

When the report was released last month, it said that “It may be noted that the views of some of the support staff about Haider were that he is a complex personality,” said the report. “He is a person who is easily convinced into believing whatever is said to him. He is also stated to be a weak nerves person.”

Haider, who had sought asylum in London after fleeing the national team's series against South Africa last November, said he had received death threats to influence matches.

Haider fumed at the document’s claims when they were initially released.

“I want a copy of the report,” Haider had written on his Facebook page then. “By declaring me a weak and nervous person and questioning my state of mind the fact finding committee has indulged in my character assassination and I reserve the right to take legal action against the PCB.”

He had written “Are people like Rashid Latif, Sarfaraz Nawaz who talked against match-fixing also mentally weak people and I am also against match fixing. I salute them.”
