ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official  said on Wednesday that former Australian cricketer Dean Jones is a favourite to join the national team as head coach in May.

The official, on condition of anonymity, said the PCB has also finalised the names of former cricketers Mohsin Khan and Iqbal Qasim for the posts of team manager and chief selector, respectively.

PCB to appoint national team coach in May

Moreover, the official said former team manager Moin Khan is not a part of the PCB’s plans.

“Mohsin was keen on becoming head coach but the PCB had offered him the job of the chief selector,” the official told APP. “But Mohsin rejected the offer; therefore, the PCB has decided to appoint him as team manager. The role of chief selector will be given to Iqbal Qasim,” he added.

I refuse to be interviewed by Wasim, Ramiz: Mohsin

The PCB had appointed former Test cricketers Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja to help find the best possible coach for the national cricket team.

The new coach will lead the team to England in July as his first assignment.

The official added that earlier, former pacer Aaqib Javed was also interested in the head coach job but when he heard reports that PCB was more inclined toward appointing a foreign coach, he decided to pull out of the race.

Is it the same Dean Jones who once referred to Hashim Amla as a terrorist because he had a beard when he took a catch?

No picking Aquib Javed is going to be another big mistake by PCB. Also I don’t get the idea to having Mohsin Khan as Manager. Isn’t he the person who is interested in coaching. Means we are going to have 2 coaches in team and issues all the time :( Recommend

@Quresh: Mistakes are there where sincerity is. Here it’s all politics, and why it should not be? Don’t forget, Mr. Najam Sethi is the head of PCB. Now only politicians will rock in Pakistan Cricket. Recommend

@iqbal .. Give it up.. He never meant it in a bad way. Was humor which I agree wasn’t correct and he paid for it. He is definitely someone who has the ability to make our players develop self belief. Appointing Mohsin khan as team manager maybe dangerous as he may try and divide the dressing room in order to weaken the foreign coach . Recommend

Wasim Arkam and Rameez Raja have been asked to choose the coach and selector because Akram and Raja are close to India and PCB can not survive without BCCI. So as long as selection happens with India’s blessings then PCB has bright future.Recommend

Iqbal Qasim has already did a stint of Chief Selector. He was no successful and was responsible picking out the worse team ever in 2007 WC and after that also.Recommend
