According to Mirza, the 27-year-old actor would be the most ideal choice to portray her onscreen, should there ever be a biopic made on her life. “Both Deepika Padukone and Parineeti Chopra are very good friends of mine but I think Parineeti is closer to me. If there is a biopic made about me, I would love to see Parineeti playing me onscreen,” said Mirza, at the NRI of the Year award ceremony on Monday. The sports star — who is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik — was honoured with India’s Global Icon award at the event.

As part of her acceptance speech, Mirza admitted that although she lives in India, she has to travel around the world for tennis tournaments so much that at times, she feels like a NRI herself. “I am travelling almost 30 weeks of the year and so, get to interact with many NRIs. Honestly, there are around 30 million NRIs across the world,” she said. “Where ever I go, I find Indians (everywhere) and feel right at home.” Mirza went on to praise her fans around the world, expressing her gratitude for their support. “I have support everywhere and I would like to thank them for supporting me wherever I go. I spend so much time outside the country that I almost feel like an NRI, though I am not. I think these kind of awards make people like us, especially the NRIs, feel that you are an Indian, no matter which part of the world you currently reside in,” said Mirza.
