Priyanka Chopra, Sania Mirza receive Padma honours

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who has garnered international acclaim with her stint in the American TV series Quantico, has received the Padma Shri award.

India's fourth highest civilian honour was awarded to the actor by President Pranab Mukherjee at a glitzy function on Tuesday.

Priyanka donned a traditional, lime green sari while receiving the honour.

The actor, who is currently riding high on the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani, has also bagged a Hollwood film, Baywatch, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.


‘Priyanka has outdone herself in Hollywood’

India Today reports the actor as saying, "From Dil Dhadakane Do to Bajirao Mastani to getting People's Choice award for Quantico and now Padma Shri...I can't explain in words what emotions I am going through. I think I am living my dream."

"I think it's all the benefit of working hard. I don't take my job for granted," she said.



Tennis Star Sania Mirza has also been awarded an honour - the Padma Bhushan, for her contribution in the world of tennis.

The award is India’s third highest civilian honour. Sania took to Twitter to express her humility.

Kirby | 8 years ago | Reply Sania Mirza does not deserve the honor, she is sooo over-rated. She was a total flop as a singles player & won a few trophies in doubles. Leande Paes & Mahesh Bhupati have 30 doubles grand slam wins between them.
