The National Accountability Bureau will take strict action against 91 people who had defaulted on Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) bills and not appeared before NAB after they had been sent summons.
NAB Multan Deputy Director Asim Raza and other officials had investigated 121 Wapda defaulters and had sent them summons. Only 30 of them had shown up. A few months ago, the Rahim Yar Khan Wapda office had given the NAB a list of 121 electricity bill defaulters. Of those, seven defaulters were from Rahim Yar Khan and they owed Wapda close to Rs2.76 million; 35 defaulters were from Khanpur, they owed Wapa Rs5.54 million; five of them were from Liaquatabad, they owed Wapda Rs0.69 million; and 74 defaulters were from Sadiqbad, they owed Wapda close to Rs14.98 million.
Raza and his team had managed to recover Rs123,954 from a defaulter in Rahim Yar Khan, Rs137,738 million from two defaulters in Liaquatpur, Rs825,948 from nine defaulters in Khanpur and Rs2.848 million from 18 defaulters in Sadiqabad.
The NAB cancelled bills of six defaulters who had been asked to pay Rs813,428. Wapda officials said 97 electricity bill defaulters were yet to pay up Rs9.18 million.
