Polio eradication: Canada pledges C$40m to Pakistan

Projects will be implemented through WHO and UNICEF in collaboration with the government of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:
The government of Canada has announced support for the PM’s initiative for eradication of polio from Pakistan with a pledge of C$40 million. In a meeting with High Commissioner for Pakistan to Canada Tariq Azim Khan, Minister for International Development, Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada Marie Claude Bibeau on Monday announced two polio eradication projects valuing C$40 million to support the government of Pakistan’s National Emergency Action Plan for polio eradication. The projects would be implemented through the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF in collaboration with the government of Pakistan. Both sides also exchanged views on continuing bilateral cooperation in development including climate change, clean technologies and renewable energy sectors.
