BAHAWALPUR: Jamaat-i-Islami leader Syed Wasim Akhtar said on Tuesday that the government is yet to announce the wheat support price and procurement policy even though harvesting season is about to begin. According to rules, the government is bound to purchase every last grain of the wheat cultivated by farmers. He said the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly had demanded that the government introduce a policy on the warehouses where thousands of tonnes of wheat was stored. He said the assembly speaker had been forthcoming on this issue and had given the relevant minister directions to proceed with a policy.
