LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday summoned lawyers to explain why Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan, the Union Council 107 chairman, had been attending official meetings as ‘mayor’ of Lahore. The judge directed the petitioner – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Zubair Khan Niazi – and counsel for the provincial government to appear in the court on April 25 for arguments. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that Hassaan had been attending official meetings in the role of a mayor. He said that a petition against Hassaan’s election as UC 107 chairman was already pending. He alleged that Hassaan was illegally enjoying perks and privileges of Lahore mayor. He requested the court to restrain him from attending such meetings.
