Problem found?: Committee suggests sacking Waqar

Also suggests removal of T20 skipper and selection committee.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fact-finding committee, set up to unearth the reasons for the dismal performance of the team at the Asia Cup and the World T20, submitted their findings to PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan yesterday with the removal of head coach Waqar Younis, T20 skipper Shahid Afridi and the selection committee topping the list of their suggestions.

Afridi had already intimated earlier that he would keep playing international cricket as a player and he confirmed this by stepping down as T20 captain by announcing it via a press release yesterday.

Waqar, meanwhile, is all set to be shown the door along with other officials of the team management despite the head coach’s insistence that he wants to continue till at least the Test series with England this summer.



Bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, whose services were required for the duration of the Asia Cup and the World T20, will be vacating his space, while batting coach Grant Flower will also need to clear his office.

In addition, it has also been recommended that the PCB remove the selection committee, led by Haroon Rasheed, and bring in new selectors to improve the team-finalisation process.

Meanwhile, former bowling coach Aqib Javed is in line to become the next head coach, while T20 and ODI vice-captain Sarfraz Ahmed is expected to be named the new T20 skipper.



In addition, UAE batting consultant and former Test cricketer Mudassar Nazar is expected to get a high position in the PCB, while bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmad is most likely to be handed the role of National Cricket Academy head coach despite his failure with the national team.
