An unbeaten 66-run knock by Karachi Region’s Asad Shafiq ensured that his side stay in control of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Grade II final against Multan Region at the Pindi Stadium yesterday.

Having started the day 188-5, Multan added 62 more runs to their total as Abdul Rehman made an unbeaten 93 to top-score for his side, while opener Imran Rafiq (57) and Saeed Anwar Jr (26) also contributed significantly..

Mir Hamza was the pick of the bowlers for Karachi in the first innings as he claimed three wickets, while Sohail Khan and Zohaib Shera dismissed two batsmen apiece.

In reply, Karachi, who started their second innings with a 212-run lead, added 173 runs to the total as Shafiq made an unbeaten 66, while Akbarur Rahman (37), Mohtashim Ali (32) and Fawad Alam (25) contributed with significant knocks.

At the end of play, Karachi were 173-5 with Shafiq and Alam at the crease.

For Multan, Majid Ali claimed three wickets, while Ziaul Haq dismissed one batsman.
