KARACHI: A customer’s complaint of finding a claw in her paratha at Chai Wala, one of the chai dhabas in Defence Housing Authority, has created uproar on social media - some bashing the customer, others thrashing the roadside eatery.

On Sunday, Javeria Javed had posted a comment and pictures on Facebook claiming that she and her family found something with ‘nails’ in their chicken paratha at Chai Wala located at Bukhari Commercial.

Speaking to The Express Tribune via Facebook messenger, Javed said that she stands by her claim. “The claw was found in the paratha,” she said. “I didn’t lie and neither was the post fake. I don’t need to frame [anyone] or anything.”

According to her, the owner had apologised and she has accepted it. She added that she wanted to just warn people to check what they eat. The customer said that she had ordered chicken, plain, cheese and aaloo parathas, and a few teas, adding that the claw was found in the chicken paratha.

The eatery’s version

Meanwhile, the owner of Chai Walah, Aized Suharwardy, also spoke to The Express Tribune via Facebook. He said that that it was plausible that the chicken claw came from the paratha, adding that they have spoken to their chicken vendor to ensure that this does not happen again.

“We don’t blame the customer at all and are in no place to claim that she made a false complaint (even though all the parathas had finished and the claw was shown to us in an empty plate) [sic],” he stated.

According to him, they take matters of hygiene and health standards seriously and this is the first time such a complaint was made. “A bone/leg of a chicken was found after the meal was finished. Our staff offered their apologies and waived her entire bill [sic],” stated Suharwardy.

Ismail Samy | 8 years ago | Reply I am not at all surprised by the finding of a claw in the paratha. Several years back one chai wala shop near my home was just beginning to prepare parathas shortly after Maghrb during the month of Ramazan. When he poured "tel" on the paratha for frying, there was full-grown cockroach that was in the "tel." The roach was quickly removed. I protested to the owner. Nothing happened and business continued as usual!
