Transitions: Former Chitral MPA Zainul Abideen passes away

Funeral prayers will be held in his ancestral village on Friday (today)

CHITRAL: Former Chitral MPA and a founding member of Pakistan Peoples Party, Zainul Abideen, passed away at a hospital in Lahore on Thursday.

Abideen had been bedridden for a month. His funeral prayers will be held at his ancestral village in Moor Kaho tehsil in Chital district on Friday (today).

He was the father of Adnan Zainul Abideen who works at National Bank in Hijrat, Afghanistan as a manager. Dr Saadul Malook, Salman, Numan, Shadman, Saifuddin, Mustansaruddin and Alauddin were some of the bereaved relatives.

He was the brother of former Habib Bank manager Saad Roomi, Humayoon Roomi and Dr Tariq Roomi.

He belonged to an influential family from Chitral. Abideen was an MPA from 1993 to 1996 and was affiliated with PPP. He also served as the party’s district president.

Earlier this month, serving MPA Arbab Akbar Hayat died of a heart attack. Flowers and candles were placed at his seat in the house and parliamentarians who spoke of him were all praises. Many referred to him as the one who brought the house to life.

Towards the end of February, Lala Nisar Muhammad Khan, a politician from Charsadda, also passed away after a heart attack.

During his illustrious political career, he held several important positions, including that of federal railways minister in Muhammad Khan Junejo’s government. He was also a federal minister for housing in the 2008 caretaker set-up ahead of elections that year.
