Job Quota: PHC directs health dept to appoint petitioner

Sajid Khan’s father died in 1988 as admin officer

PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court has directed the health department to appoint a petitioner who had applied on the deceased quota within a month. The bench, comprising Justice Qaiser Rasheed and Justice Roohul Amin Chamkani, was hearing a petition filed by Sajid Khan through his counsel Ijaz Anwar.

The bench was informed the petitioner’s father was an administrative officer at health department, who passed away in 1988. Anwar told the court the petitioner applied for vacancy of junior clerk under the deceased quota but was not appointed by the authorities despite court orders. The lawyer argued in 2013 the court had ordered the authorities to appoint him; not doing so was tantamount to contempt of court.

The bench, after hearing the arguments, ordered the health authorities to ensure petitioner’s appointment was made within a month.

The same bench set aside a trial court verdict and released a person who was awarded a life in prison sentence. The bench was hearing an appeal filed by Salman Khan through his lawyer Muhammad Saeed Khan. The petitioner was charged for murdering a person identified as Suleman.

Saeed Khan argued there was a difference in statements of the witnesses, while the evidence produced before the court was also insufficient. The bench, after going over the record of the case and statement of the witnesses, ordered Salman’s release and set aside the trial court’s judgment.
