Heritage: Students briefed on significance of Hund

PESHAWAR: Students of various universities and colleges visited Hund – a major archaeological site in the country – where they were briefed about its historical significance, stated a press release issued on Saturday. The students were briefed by Muhammad Usman Mardanvi, an archaeologist. He told the students about the arrival of Alexander The Great in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and how he crossed the river to enter Taxila. He told students there were about 12,000 archaeological sites from Durand Line to Khairabad but only 100 have been protected and excavated by the provincial directorate of archaeology and museums. He added, “Thieves and smugglers have dug the unearthed sites which contain remains of the Gandhara civilisation.”
