QUETTA:

A day after security forces claimed they arrested an Indian spy in Balochistan, Commander Southern Command Lt-Gen Amir Riaz accused ‘elements in London and Geneva’ of conspiring to upset stability in Pakistan.

Speaking at a ceremony held in connection with Youm-e-Shuhada (day of the martyrs) in Quetta on Friday, he said the enemies of Pakistan were using various tactics to harm the country.

“Pakistan has remained an eyesore for the enemy and they have always resorted to tactics to cause harm to this country,” Lt-Gen Riaz told participants. He said the arrest of an Indian spy on Thursday “bears testimony to the fact that the enemy does not want to see development in Pakistan.”

“Pakistan is fast becoming the most powerful country in the Muslim world. This is why enemies, both external and internal, are trying to harm the country,” the commander said. He called on every individual in the country to “recognise enemies of Pakistan and fight against them with unity to protect the country’s borders.”

“Some of our own people, who are being manipulated by the enemy, have declared a war on their own country,” Lt-Gen Riaz said, adding that such people were being exploited on basis of cast, creed, religion, ethnicity or the languages they speak.

He vowed that Pakistan will soon attain victory in the ongoing war on terror, saying that the enemy “must know that the brave sons of the soil know well to defend their country.”

The commander said it was a matter of pride for him to address the dependents of those who gave their lives to protect the country. He added that the martyrs would not be forgotten and will remain alive in the hearts of the nation.

Addressing the occasion, Frontier Corps Balochistan Inspector General Maj-Gen Sher Afgun said terrorism is breathing its last and the nation will not let the menace return to Balochistan. He added that living nations do not hold themselves back from rendering any sacrifice for the survival of their country.
