The first glimpse of Bridget Jones’s Baby was released on Wednesday, with a two-minute trailer showing Oscar-winning actor Renee Zellweger reprising her role as the adorable, weight-fixated singleton. Beginning with a wedding scene that shows Jones walking down the aisle in a white dress, the trailer soon makes it clear that there is no happily ever after for her, as she has split from old love interest Mark Darcy, played by The King’s Speech actor Colin Firth. Single once again, Jones finds a new love interest – played by Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey. And so begins yet another tyrst with destiny for Jones.
Typical of the Bridget Jones’s books and subsequent films, the trailer shows plenty of comedy scenes, as well as cameos from Oscar-winner Emma Thompson and singer Ed Sheeran. Bridget Jones’s Baby will be the third installment of the franchise, following 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason - all based on the 1990s novels by Helen Fielding. In 2013, the author released Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy in which she shocked fans by killing off Darcy, leaving Jones a widowed mother.
Bridget Jones’s Baby is set for release in September this year.
