Actor nostalgic of ‘innocent’ Holi of yesteryear

MUMBAI: It seems like the auspicious occasion of Holi has got Amitabh Bachchan reminiscing about the good old days. The 73-year-old actor recalled some of the best times he has had on the festival of colour, and shared personal photographs of past celebrations with some of his colleagues from the film industry.

As a Bollywood megastar, Bachchan is associated with some of the most popular Holi songs of the past, including the evergreen Rang Barse. However, this year saw him remembering the times when the entire film industry would “lose their status to become one” for fun. “They were such innocent and fun times – just gangs of friends enjoying. It was such a humbling feeling,” wrote Bachchan on his official blog. He shared instances of Holi celebrations in old Mumbai. “The industry had the best Holi at the RK Studios of Shri Raj Kapoor, where everyone assembled. After his passing, much of the gaiety and fun vanished until we decided to have these revelries at our house, Prateeksha,” he said. “They were full of all that Holi celebrations desire: dunk-coloured water ponds and tubs, masses of dry and wet colour all over. There were bands from all parts of the country playing non-stop and gallons of bhang and gujiya to eat.”



The Wazir star went on to lament how time had taken its toll on how Holi is celebrated in the Bachchan house. “We haven’t celebrated it to that extent for some years now due to deaths and illnesses in the family,” he said. “But I think it’s time to start it all over again, perhaps next year.”
