KARACHI:

The daughter of an elderly man who died of burn injuries in his home this week has confessed to murdering her father because he allegedly compelled her to engage in prostitution.

Seventy-year-old Muhammad Zaman was found burnt to death in Karachi's Qasba Colony neighbourhood on Friday.

“Initially, it was thought that the man died in an accidental fire but we found clues suggesting he was murdered. We reached the conclusion when the victim’s son approached the police and accused his sister of the crime,” Pirabad SHO Ayaz Brohi said.

He said police arrested the girl, aged 25, while she was trying to flee the city. She later confessed to the crime. However, the accused in her statement to the media claimed she surrendered herself.

The girl claimed her father used to force her to commit immoral acts to earn money.

“Twice my ‘nikkah’ was performed but he (my father) would not give his consent for ‘rukhsati’. Then I decided to kill him. I intoxicated him by giving him sleeping pills and then set him on fire by pouring kerosene oil on him. I have no regrets about his murder,” she said in her statement.
