LAHORE:
The city district government and the Punjab police have finalised programmes for Pakistan Day festivities. All major traffic junctions and roads have been decorated with festoons and flags, and various festivals and events have been planned in various parts of the city.

The district police and traffic police personnel held a dress rehearsal on Sunday for the Azm-i-Pakistan Parade at Police Lines and the Gulberg’s Main Boulevard.

The district administration has planned events throughout the week to celebrate the anniversary of the Lahore Resolution moved by AK Fazlul Haq at Minto Park Lahore, in 1940. The resolution represented the turning point in the political direction of the All India Muslim League.

The government has arranged for fireworks at five different locations throughout the city. Lucky Irani Circus has been set up in Sabazazar and a family festival organised at Ideal Park.

DCO Capt (r) Muhammad Usman and DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf monitored arrangements of Pakistan Day events at Liberty Chowk Camp.

More than 50 musical bands are scheduled to perform at various events on March 23. Debating competitions, seminars, quiz programmes, discussions and sports tournaments have also been arranged at public schools.

A floral wreath will be laid at Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum and the national flag will be hoisted at the Lahore Fort. The government has also planned an event at Aiwan-i-Iqbal.

Town administrations have also joined the district government in organising Pakistan Day funfairs in their respective areas. Special ceremonies have been planned at churches in the city and a book fair and a photo exhibition will be held at Al Hamrah and the Lahore Museum.
