ABBOTABAD: The parents of a medical student who mysteriously died at her hostel have refused to register an FIR against the incident.

Mirpur SHO Javed Khan told The Express Tribune on Friday 19-year-old Rida Khan, daughter of Kaboor Khan, a resident of Katlang, Mardan, was a first-year student completing her Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) from International Medical College (IMC) Abbottabad. She was staying at her institute’s private hostel in Habibullah Colony.

“On Thursday, at around 3am, she went to the roof of the three-storey hostel building,” the SHO said. “While she was talking on the phone, Rida fell off the roof,” the SHO said. “She was rushed to Ayub Medical Complex but doctors pronounced her dead.”

According to Javed, the girl's death was an accident and her parents refused to register an FIR against the incident.

When contacted, an official at the college administration said the deceased was mentally disturbed for a long time and had resumed her studies at the request of her parents after taking a gap year.  However, the college administration did not share the exact cause of Rida’s death. In 2015, an MBBS student at IMC was found dead in the washroom of a private hostel.
