ISLAMABAD: Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday on a two-day official visit.

A 21 gun salute was presented to the visiting president as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif welcomed him at the Nur Khan Airbase, Radio Pakistan reported.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, and Mayor of Islamabad Sheikh Ansar Aziz, along with several other officials were present at the occasion.

During the visit, Berdimuhamedov is scheduled to hold talks with PM Nawaz and President Mamnoon Hussain on issues pertaining to bilateral relations and cooperation in diverse fields.

They will also discuss regional and international matters of mutual interests.

Further, the two sides are expected to review progress on Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.

The ground breaking of the 1814 kilometer long pipeline was performed during Premier Nawaz's visit to Ashgabat in December last year.

The leaderships will also exchange views on measures for early implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in December last.

A business forum comprising Turkmen and Pakistani businessmen will also be organised on the sidelines of the visit.
