VATICAN CITY: Mother Teresa of Kolkata, the nun who dedicated her life to helping the poor, will be made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church at a ceremony on September 4, Pope Francis said on Tuesday.

Vatican set to approve Mother Teresa elevation to sainthood

Francis made the announcement at a meeting of cardinals to give the final approval to several sainthood causes. Last December, he cleared the way for sainthood for the Nobel peace laureate, who died in 1997 at the age of 87.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly

Raw is War | 8 years ago | Reply @John B: "It was also ironic play by God that Theresa died a few days after Diana" I remember that time. BBC was the biggest news channel then. It showed almost nothing of mother theresa. All 24 hours were devoted to Diana. It was a crying shame. Nobody in this region bothered about Diana. Still her sob story was stuffed down our throats- as if the world has come to an end.
John B | 8 years ago | Reply A good humanitarian who touched the lives of many. I personally knew of many adopted children from the convent, two of them live few doors down from me, and one person who used to spend every summer for 10 years or so volunteering at the convent Pres.Jimmy Carter's mom used to spend there as well. Incidentally, there is a womens' University created on her honor in India while she was still alive and a postage stamp on her honor was issued. Please add more those who read this. It was also ironic play by God that Theresa died a few days after Diana and I was kept wondering who did most to humanity and earned every act. Incidentally, her convent was supported by many donors from india regardless of religion. Many will come but only a few are chosen She made her parents proud.
