A four-day anti-polio campaign kicked off on Monday in the Sukkur district to cover more than 269,208 children below five years of age. Sukkur commissioner Muhammad Abbas Baloch inaugurated the anti-polio drive by administering anti-polio drops to children at DHQ Hospital.
He said that strict measures would be put in place for the ongoing anti-polio campaign, which would continue till March 17. He hoped that the disease would be eradicated from the Sukkur division soon and said the government was keen to eradicate polio from the country because it has become a serious threat to the lives of children. He also urged the district health officials to keep a close watch over the activities of the vaccination teams.
District health officer Abdul Wahab Mahar said 926 mobile health teams are operating in the Sukkur district. He said polio drops were also being administered at health centres to ensure immunisation.
