KARACHI:

Two Rangers check posts in district East were attacked by unidentified men on Sunday within the span of four minutes. No loss of life was reported.

The first attack took place at 7:45am the Rangers check post near Moti Mahal on Rashid Minhas Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, while the second occurred at the check post in Essa Nagri on Sir Shah Suleman Road. Both posts were partially damaged. Police believe both attacks might have been carried out by the same group. According to eye-witnesses, two men riding a motorcycle hurled something at the posts and sped away. Gulshan-e-Iqbal SP Dr Fahad said “Cases have been registered and further investigation is under way.” Bomb disposal squad (BDS) expert Muhammad Abid said “The culprits used improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target the check posts,” adding that each bomb contained nearly 500g of explosives.

No Rangers personnel have been injured in any of the attacks in the current year.

A militant group active in the city has been trying to promote terrorism and violence, said the Rangers in a press release on Sunday, adding that action would be taken against the culprits.
