Transitions: Urdu poet Afsar Minhas dies at 62
A large number of poets from Abbottabad, Havelian, Mansehra, Wah Cantt attended his funeral
HARIPUR:
Urdu poet, social activist and provincial vice president of Anjuman-e-Taraqqi Pasand Musanifeen, Fida Hussain, better known as Afsar Minhas, passed away in Haripur Thursday evening. He was 62 and is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
Family sources told The Express Tribune on Friday the poet suffered a cardiac arrest while he was writing at home.
He was shifted to a private clinic where doctors pronounced him dead. The 62-year-old poet was laid to rest in Shakar Shah Badshah graveyard. A large number of poets from Abbottabad, Havelian, Mansehra, Wah Cantt attended his funeral. In addition, social activists, lawyers and journalists also turned up to bid farewell to the poet.
The Haripur chapter of Anjuman-e-Taraqqi Pasand Musanifeen and a large number of literary organisations expressed grief over the poet’s demise.
The deceased wrote under the pseudonym of Afsar Minhas. He wrote an anthology of poems titled Koi tasveer to pathar se niklay. The 62-year-old also served as a programme manager at South Asia Partnership Pakistan, an NGO, and penned several books on social activism.
