Shahbaz Taseer comes home

Letter March 12, 2016
The resurfacing of kidnapping cases serve as reminders that terrorist and criminal groups are still operating openly

OKARA: On March 8, Pakistani intelligence and security agencies took action to recover Shahbaz Taseer after four and a half years. This was good news for the Taseer family after the execution of Mumtaz Qadri.

The recovery of Shahbaz, however, raises some questions for common citizens and analysts. For example, was this recovery made possible after paying a ransom or was it a result of ardent efforts made by security agencies? Shahbaz was kidnapped by UET students, which was the result of unemployment in our country. If the government takes steps to provide employment, then young men and women could be saved from evil forces, such as terrorism and kidnapping.

Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and PPP members like Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also pressured the agencies and the Government of Pakistan for the recovery of Moosa Gilani.

The resurfacing of such kidnapping cases serve as reminders that terrorist and other criminal groups are still operating openly after measured steps taken by our government and security forces in the form of Zarb-e-Azb and the National Action Plan.

Security forces and intelligence agencies should also make their best efforts to bring smiles to the Gilani family’s faces, just as they have done for the Taseer family.
