When many of us leave the country for university, we prepare ourselves for widely spread misconceptions about life in Pakistan. No matter how mentally prepared we are, there’s always a question posed that leaves us surprised, if not horrified.

We asked fellow Pakistanis who have spent time abroad to recall the most absurd questions they were asked and how they answered them.

The question was simple: “What’s the weirdest question you’ve been asked while abroad about our culture/country?

While we find humour in these misinformed questions, it’s important to remember that they give us the opportunity to rectify stereotypes. Those who are asking us questions are already a step ahead from those that make assumptions, so take a deep breath and show them the light.
