PESHAWAR: Police said they solved the murder of a Khyber Agency khasadar soldier identified as Khan Gul. The victim had been stabbed and injured in the city on February 13. He later died at Hayatabad Medical Complex.

The attacker stabbed him repeatedly and took away his car, phone and other valuables.

Khan Gul, 55, was a resident of Phase-I, Hayatabad.

Addressing a press conference at Tatara police station, ASP Hassan Afzal said law-enforcement officers started an investigation after registering an FIR in the case. After thoroughly probing the matter, the police arrested a man identified as Hussain Shah for Gul’s murder. They confiscated the stolen vehicle, along with other documents, from the accused.

The detainee claimed he was at Tatara Park when the deceased khasadar offered him a ride to Board Bazaar. “Once in the car, he tried to rape me so I stabbed him repeatedly in self-defence and took his vehicle and mobile,” he claimed.

Khasadar personnel are often the victims of violence, mostly in the form of terrorism. Kidnappings and body dumps are also not uncommon.

On January 26, the body of a khasadar officer was found in Safi tehsil, Mohmand Agency, after he was abducted three days ago. An official of the political administration confirmed Rehmatullah, a resident of Alingar in Safi, had been murdered and his body dumped. His body was found in a search operation.
