Civic development: Urban train for Quetta on the cards

The project will be a joint venture of the Balochistan government and the federal railways ministry

QUETTA: The Balochistan government is planning to run an urban transit train along the Kuchlak-Quetta-Mastung route to provide better conveyance facilities to residents of the region.

According to a handout issued on Sunday, the planned train service will not only reduce traffic in Quetta but also connect the provincial capital with N-70, N-65, N-50, N-40 and N-25 highways.

Much of the railway track which the urban transit train would run, along already exists the handout said. It added that a modern railway station, which would cover an area of four to five kilometres, would be built for the train service.

The project, which is expected to cost around Rs2 billion, will be a joint venture of the Balochistan government and the federal railways ministry. Private investments will also be invited.
