After the passage of Violence Against Women Act by Punjab Assembly, work is to be done for other marginalised groups

SUKKUR: The Violence Against Women Act has been passed by the Punjab Assembly, which shows that Pakistan is heading towards the right path in terms of granting due rights to every citizen — yet there is still a lot of work to be done in this regard for other marginalised groups.

However, a section of Pakistanis are opposing the new legislation. Every woman has the right to be safe in her home; I do not understand why certain groups are protesting. I urge such people to consider the importance of real issues such as corruption, terrorism and power cuts, and protest against those instead, rather than wasting their energies on pushing for inequality. The issues of corruption and extremism are the ones that are actually damaging Pakistan morally and economically.
