Unidentified men opened fire at a police check-point in Pishin on Saturday, killing an assistant sub-inspector.

Police say that armed men opened indiscriminate fire at a police post near Kili Ghirsheenan, some 2km from the city area and fled from the scene. “Assistant sub-inspector Syed Ali Ahmed, who was shot by armed assailants, succumbed to his injuries while on the way to District Hospital Pishin,” police said.

“Another constable of the check-post retaliated and fired several shots at the attackers, but they managed to escape,” police added. A heavy contingent of police and law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police along with security forces carried out a search operation and arrested six suspected persons in connection of the ASI killing.
