PESHAWAR: Governor Zafar Iqbal Jhagra has said knowledge is key for peace and prosperity and this can only be attained through quality of education and innovation.

This was stated in a handout issued on Saturday. According to the document, he was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Fifth International Conference on Medical Education held in the city on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by Khyber Medical University and its Association for Excellence in Medical Education.

According to Jhagra, research is “a vehicle of positive change and history had shown, time and again, nations that excel in research end up as world pioneers”.

The newly-elected governor said teaching and learning aspect of medical education was crucial to the country and the present government was committed to providing the best facilities for the purpose.

During his address, Jhagra said the gap between developed and developing nations was widening.

The governor appreciated KMU’s role, saying the institute had imparted quality education in a short span of time.

“The faculty and institutes are providing services ranging from undergraduate training of medical, nursing, paramedics and physiotherapy students to postgraduate education in various disciplines,” the handout quoted him as saying.

He said KMU took the initiative to provide opportunities to teachers and doctors to learn the basics of teaching, learning, communication skills and the use of information technology.

He also said the conference provided a platform for dialogue on issues and challenges of standardising medical education. He hoped the KMU VC and other faculty members leave no stone unturned to make the university one of the best institutes in Pakistan.
