“High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we are excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise,” Disney Channel President Gary Marsh said.
High School Musical is described as a modern-day Romeo and Juliet which tells the story of Troy Bolton (Efron) the star athlete at a small-town high school who falls for nerdy beauty Gabriella Montez (Hudgens) at a karaoke party.
The film will feature an entirely new cast and it has not yet been revealed if any of the original stars will make an appearance.
