Not waiting for a repeat: Police to hire former servicemen for NADRA

The police plan to recruit former servicemen on contract for National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to help protect its offices across the province.

Earlier, NADRA had requested the police to deploy personnel to provide security at its offices. The request came after the deadly attack on its office in Mardan. However, it was declined as police officials could not be provided at all offices in the province owing to human resource limitations.

Helping hand

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a senior police official said they offered to help NADRA recruit ex-servicemen on a contract basis and train them to protect offices in an effective manner.

“Due to the lack of law and order in the province, it is difficult for the police to spare some of its personnel for the security of [NADRA’s office],” he said.

However, he added NADRA agreed to the police helping recruit experienced and qualified ex-servicemen. “Ex-servicemen include retired army men, policemen, officials from the Frontier corps and Frontier Constabulary.” he said. According to the official, former servicemen do not require much training due to their previous background.

The police have started the recruitment. “We will recruit hundreds for this purpose,” the official said. “The standard operating procedure (SOP) is that we write to regional police officers (RPO) about the seats and requirements. They will issue an advertisement and urge interested candidates to apply. The candidates will then be interviewed, shortlisted and recruited.”

As per the official, the police have asked the relevant department to provide NADRA the salaries of the ex-servicemen.

Suki Kinari Dam

Police have also been requested to deploy at least 600 policemen at Suki Kinari Dam in Mansehra after engineers from China started working there.
