TEHRAN: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that Tehran is making steady progress in its nuclear program, and warned that not even 100,000 U.N. Security Council resolutions will derail his country's nuclear ambitions, said a report of the Associated Press.

The semiofficial Fars news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying "Iran is making progress in nuclear energy" while the U.S. and its allies "only issue resolutions," As repoted by the Associated Press. "Let them issue 100,000 resolutions," he said.

"It's not important. Let them say what they want to," added Ahmadinejad.

The U.N. Security Council issued a fourth round of sanctions on Iran last summer after its refusal to discontinue enriching uranium. The US and its allies have accused Iran that it is using its civil nuclear program as a cover to develop nuclear weapons.

Tehran denies the accusation and says that its nuclear work is directed toward producing nuclear energy and isotopes to treat medical patients.

Last week, Iran took several international envoys, none being from the world powers, to a tour of its nuclear facilities. Iran hopes this gesture will build support before the Istanbul negotiations on its disputed atomic activities.

Iran's offer did not include the United States, Britain, France and Germany who have been very critical of the Iranian program.

Ahmer Ali | 13 years ago | Reply Assalam-o-Allaikum Warahmatullah.The most boldest step taken by Irani leadership because to obtain nuclear technology for positive purposes is the basic right of every country and this right is not specified for only for advanced Western countries and USA although nuclear weapons have been misused by the most USA and other advanced Western countries.If USA and other advanced Western countries object on it that Islamic countries can't get nuclear technology they first they must have to eradicate their nuclear assets and equipments then put pressure on the Islamic countries.Because this is the formula of success and influence that do first yourself then expect from the others.And in this regard UNO is playing the prejudicial role especially when UNSC passes any resolution against the Islamic country on the issue of nuclear technology then it is clearly proven that UNO is totally favoring the USA and other advanced Western countries only.Well done IRAN well done.You have shown the real bravery and courage before the world.May Allah Almighty bestow upon you His greatest blessings and favors and also may succeed you in your nuclear technology field.If UNO want to disarm the world from nuclear weapons then first UNO pressurize USA and other advanced Western countries to take solid and practical steps in this regard on priority basis by removing prejudicial attitude from its charter.

Saad | 13 years ago | Reply why sould the west provide john? so that Iran succumbs to thier debt for the rest of thier lives? look at What the west has done to countries like Indonesia, Pakistan, Equador etc. They fill them up with so much Debt that then in return when the countries cant pay it back they want their representation in the government flanks. Iran has all the right to do whatever it is doing. Who are the Americans to interfare. Did anyone ever say that America should give up its Nuclear Assets? Read the book Confessions of an Economic Hitman and you will clearly understand what i am trying to say.

john Lerrato | 13 years ago | Reply When one listens to either side of the Iran Nuclear impasse, it becomes extremely difficult to decide who is right, who is bluffing and who is wrong. Well, let's think like small kids for a while. If Iran wants electricity, let the West provide it. If it's isotopes let the West provide it in sufficient quantities. Then let's see if the digging and probing for nuclear power will continue. A lot of resources are being used to track this issue that could go along way in providing the two items Iran claims to want. I am just trying to act naive the way my daughter would and assuming, for once, that smoke doesn't necessarily imply fire.
