KARACHI: “It’s the first time we are doing such a big event, so it’s new for us,” said freelance digital artist and the Karachi Biennale’s executive council member Atteqa Malik.

She said it is difficult to establish the funding, adding that they would have a number of ‘feeder’ projects, leading up to November 2017. “There is one scheduled for March [this year]. It’s a school outreach project. We are inviting German artists related to technology and art. They are going to work with a couple of schools in Karachi and teach a very new concept: how art is related to education.”

She added that they are going to take forward the concept of STEM (Science, Technology and Mathematics) to STEAM (Science, Technology, Art and Mathematics).

“Art education in our country is very stagnant,” she said. “There are so many levels of creativity that can be used for learning methods.”

She explained that they will have such feeder projects every three to four months, as it takes a long time to plan.
